Shelley was a very popular lady, who did a lot of work for BHS Lancashire, both as Chairman and Volunteer. Shelley was also involved with Dogs Trust and was the dog warden for her area. Shelley will be sadly missed by all the people who knew her.

SHEw01 Waypoint 1
Start / Finish
1. Follow the track towards Rivington Hall Barn. Just before the car park turn sharp right, follow the road to the T- junction.

2. Cross the road and turn right down the track running parallel to the road.

3. Where the bridleway crosses the road, turn left. Follow slightly uphill to the T- junction, turn left towards Rivington Hall Barn.

4. At the rear of Rivington Hall Barn turn right through the gate and follow the bridleway uphill for 120 metres / 125 yds. Then bear right along to the next gate, approx. 800 metres / 880 yds.

5. Go through the gate and turn sharp right, continue for approx. 400m/420yds

6. Turn left to follow the track to Rivington Lane (main road). Cross the road, continue for approx. 600m/630yds to where the bridleways join. Turn right towards castle ruins.

7. Before reaching the Castle ruins turn right. At the junction of the tracks take the righthand track back towards the road.

8. On reaching the road, turn left to ride alongside it for a very short distance then turn left to ride along the field edge, turning left again to re-join the bridleway at the end of the field.

9. Follow the bridleway round the edge of the reservoir back to the Castle ruins, approx. 800m/880yds passing round in front of the Castle cross the track to re-join the bridleway round the edge of the reservoir. Follow the track as it ambles round, keeping right, then turn left (marked) to go towards the car park. Turn left just before the car park, cross the main track to the road crossing.

10. Cross the road to go up the bridleway at the side of Knowle House. Once at the top of the track, turn right. Follow through to the gate, go straight through the gate and turn right to go down at the side of the High School.

11. Turn right through the woods, passing the field on your right (there may be Alpacas in the field) to the road. Turn left and follow the road uphill.

12. Pass Ormstons farm on your right and continue along the track to Wilderswood, approx. 750m/770yds.

13. At the end of this track turn right to go round the outside edge of Wilderswood, keeping the wall to your left, along Old Rake. ( A quiet road with a few houses your right.)

14. On reaching the top of Old Rake (small car park to your left) turn left onto Georges Lane.

15.Follow Georges Lane until you reach the right turn to go to the Pike - approx. 1km/ 1/2ml. The track is gated at the bottom. There are two choices here - either go round the main route of the Pike or follow it round to the steep track on the left to up to the top of the Pike. There are great views from here on a good day - it is a there and back track but well worth the effort

16. On returning to Georges Lane turn left, follow the road for approx. 5oom/550yds then turn right downhill

10. At the bottom of this track you will see the entrance to the terraced gardens on your right. Go through the gate into the gardens. Follow the track uphill to an open space, then bear left to continue downhill, under the elaborate bridge, then down to the gate just before the car park on your right.

18. Go through onto the road for a short distance then turn left through the gate onto the bridleway.

19. Follow the bridleway as it curves left for 200 metres / 210 yds. then keep right to go downhill (there`s a post and rail fence to your left and an open field to the right) to the rear of Rivington Hall Barn.

20. Turn left, keeping the outbuildings on your right. Take the track straight ahead with the wall, stream and fence to your right. At the end of the fence turn right towards a metal barrier and the road. Cross the road, follow it round to the right, then sharp left before the car park to return to our parking area.
